October 16, 2018, update from Suza

With the birth of my second granddaughter, Fiona, on July 13, 2018, I’m continuing to take time off from teaching to take her older sister Maggie (age four on November 11) for adventures in nature, or to the Humane Society where we spend many happy hours playing with the cats and cheering up the dogs, and exploring Libbey Park and other activities in downtown Ojai . With my own two children I was not fully awake to how quickly these childhood years pass–so now,  on the mornings that I would normally be teaching, I’m enjoying the yoga of grand parenting.  Maggie is very athletic and loves walking the creek bed in the river bottom with our pack of three dogs. She’s constantly challenging me to navigate uneven terrain and clamber up and down rocks (“come on, grandma, you can do it!”),  and wade across creeks where, amazingly, water is still flowing.

My four-year term on the Ojai City Council ends December 2020. This is a huge commitment, but I’m passionate about doing my share to protect the beautiful Ojai Valley. (I previously served 1996-2000. Current term 2016-2020). I’m also aiming to write a riveting yoga memoir during this teaching sabbatical. (But please don’t ask me how it’s going!)

February 6, 2018, update from Suza:

Thank you for visiting my website. If you’ve recently contacted me about classes, it’s going to be another month or longer, before I resume my regular teaching schedule.

My feet are gradually recovering from the fall I had last year and I’m back riding my bicycle and walking. On January 5th, I resumed teaching my Friday morning class for  longtime students who attend on a regular basis.  The Friday class is full and is not open to drop-ins or new students.

Suza’s group classes are held at Sacred Space Yoga Studio
307 E. Matilija, Suite H (upstairs), in the heart of downtown Ojai.

Suza’s Iyengar-style Yoga classes cover the safe-practice of all categories of poses: Restorative Poses, Standing Poses, Forward Bends, Back Bends, Twists, Inverted Poses, Lying Down Poses, Hip Openers, etc. Special attention is given to the weight-bearing standing poses and deeply relaxing restorative yoga poses. Classes are unhurried, with plenty of props to provide support so that your practice is rejuvenating and restores your energy reserves.

Those who are ready will learn the safe practice of the two-pillars of yoga: Headstand and Shoulderstand. Those who are not ready for more advanced inversions will have the opportunity to practice safe, gentle alternatives such as Supported Legs-Up-the Wall Pose.
Instruction includes back care basics and yoga for scoliosis.
